The UK Youth Mobility Scheme provides an exciting opportunity for young individuals aged 18-35 from eligible countries to experience living and working in the UK for up to two years. Participants can explore various occupations, pursue studies, and even be self-employed during their stay. It’s a chance to immerse oneself in a new culture and gain valuable international experience.

To be eligible, applicants must have at least £2,530 in savings and come from one of the countries or territories listed in the eligibility requirements.

Eligible countries include Australia, Canada, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino, and Iceland. British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen, and British national (overseas) are also welcome. Indians nationals may apply through the India Young Professionals Scheme.

For youths from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, they must be selected in the Youth Mobility Scheme ballot before visa application. The ballot for visa applications opens twice a year, in January and July. To enter the ballot, one must send an email and only one entry per person is allowed.

The scheme offers youths the opportunity to study, work in a variety of occupations, and even be self-employed within the UK. It is imperative to note that this visa category does not grant access to public funds, and applicants are prohibited from applying with family members or working as professional athletes in the UK. Furthermore, extending the stay beyond the initial 24-month period is not permitted, and the scheme does not lead to permanent settlement in the UK.

Applicants can apply for a visa for an initial 24-month period, which can later be extended by a further 12 months while they are in the UK. The visa status cannot be extended beyond 12 months. Other eligible nationalities under the scheme will continue to be limited to a 24-month stay without the option to extend. The visa will be valid for 24 months once approved, where the application process usually takes 3 weeks’ time. The visa holders must enter the UK within six months of the grant.
